Canadian Star from Ligue 1 Eyed by La Liga Club

Centre-back Derek Cornelius is reportedly on the radar of Spanish LaLiga club, Deportivo Alavés.

The 27-year-old Canadian-Jamaican currently plays for Olympique Marseille in France’s Ligue 1, where his team is enjoying a strong season, currently sitting in second place with 65 points.

Cornelius has been a key figure in the Marseille defence, featuring in 21 matches this season. Standing at 188 cm and weighing 86 kg, his physical presence and defensive prowess have been instrumental in the club’s Champions League campaign.

Despite his current contract with Marseille not expiring until June 2028, the transfer window, which closes on August 31, could see a move to Alavés materialise. The Spanish club would likely be investing a significant sum in the player, with Cornelius’ market value currently standing at €5.00m, approximately 37.2 million DKK.

A move to Alavés would offer Cornelius a new challenge in one of the world’s most competitive leagues. However, with Marseille performing strongly and a stable position in the team, it remains to be seen whether the centre-back will opt for a change of scenery.
