Yukinari Sugawara, the 25-year-old right-back from Japan, is reportedly on the verge of a move from England to Germany.
Currently playing for Southampton, who are struggling in the Championship, Sugawara may soon be trading in the English second tier for the heights of the Bundesliga with SV Werder Bremen.
Despite Southampton’s poor form, Sugawara’s individual performances have caught the eye of many, including Werder Bremen. The German club, currently sitting comfortably in 8th place in the Bundesliga, could be a promising new stage for the Japanese international.
The transfer window is still open until August 31, and with Sugawara’s contract at Southampton not expiring until 2026, a transfer deal would likely command a significant fee. His market value is currently estimated at €11.00m, which equates to approximately 82 million DKK, even after accounting for variance.
It’s worth noting that Bremen’s interest in Sugawara could be due to the need for a reliable right-back. Their current option, Thelo Gerard Aasgaard, while talented, has only managed 2 goals and 1 assist in 17 matches this season. Sugawara, with his experience and proven ability, could potentially provide the stability that Bremen needs in their backline.
